Starting Point

Site History & Existing Conditions: Clinton Street has operated as a one-way for many decades. This style of multi-lane one-way street was popularized as a way to prioritize motor vehicle travel into and out of the Downtown business district as quickly as possible. Converting the street back to two-way operation produces traffic calming effects, improves access to multiple blocks seeing redevelopments, and is in-line with recommendations made by the MPO SMTC related to best practices for wide streets within central business districts.

What is Being Done?

Project Objectives: The city has initiated this project to correct these deficiencies and provide a safe and maintainable transportation corridor. The primary objectives of this project are to:

  • Rehabilitate and preserve the pavement, including full depth repairs where needed
  • Update traffic signal equipment, including NYSDOT owned equipment at Adams Street
  • Bring all curb ramps up to current ADA requirements
  • Provide adequate accommodation for bicyclists consistent with NYSDOT standards and the Syracuse Bicycle Plan 2040
